'The Day That Literally Shook Phoenix'

Don Bolles' murder has been described as the day Phoenix stopped being a small town.

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the murder of Arizona Republic reporter Don Bolles, whose killing in a car bombing was an act of retaliation for stories he wrote. To mark the horrible occasion, Valley playwright Ben Tyler -- who has written extensively about some of Arizona’s better-known political figures, including Barry Goldwater and Evan Mecham -- has put together an event called "You Can’t Kill a Story: The Murder of Don Bolles." Hear all about it HERE.

The Don Bolles case loomed large over the newsrooms where I worked in Phoenix.
