Was shocked to see that Steel Gym, long known as the steroid capital of New York City, put up a sign notifying members that it is ceasing operations. Ironically, I had just taken this photo above because I was stunned to see that they had just put up a new sign, which was undoubtedly the first capital expenditure the gym had made in 20 years. A sign stating owner Ken Hunt "is a sleaze" followed the closing notice. Please contact me if you know anything about any of these "many circumstances" that led to its demise.
I never worked out at Steel, but applied for an apartment in the high-rise in which it's located. I didn't make enough money to get approved for the apartment, but I've occassionally wondered how my life might have been different if I had, in a "Sliding Doors" kind of way.

I hired a trainer named Milo And he almost killed me ... He gave me illegal prescription drugs to take as a diuretic and I almost died. I didn't know they where prescription drugs given to diabetics who retain to much water in their bodies. I almost died! I spoke to the owner to complain about it and he was a total jerk defending that trainer who almost took my life. So glad they are closed permanently!!! Karma took care of them!!!
I workout for 2 years at steel gym and I found it to be the best gym .I never encountered any illegal/gym activity at the gym .I don't know way u guys are smoking and to the lady who commented u are entitled to way u put in ur body and no one can force u .U wanted to look good so u went for whatever drug / steroid .In this modern world with most people having internet on the phone ,next time research on pros and cons of way u take in .Ken is a nice guy from wat I know
I'd trained at Steel many times, and Ken was always a gentleman. Very sorry to see the best Manhattan gym close.
@kay that place was full off illegal activity that’s why it shut down!! The drug this person gave me was illegal!!! He misinformed me for your information!!! He told me that he was giving me a dieuretic which I researched for your information and it turns out that what he has given me was a prescription medication completely different to what he told

For your information I did my research and the trainer Milo had told me he was giving me a diuretic that’s was safe he gave me the name and I did my research buddy!!! The day I almost died my blood Work was taken at the hospital and turns out that what that trainer said he was giving me to help With water loss was completely different to what the doctors found in my blood!! He gave me an illegal Prescription drug That I didn’t know I was taking!!! He almost killed me! How Is that my fucking fault!! Get out of here with that bullshit!! Glad those criminals are closed for

Just came back from NYC Pride, and also walked around Chelsea. I see that the Chelsea steroid bunnies who used to hop around the neighborhood are no more. I guess the closing of Steel Gym was a big reason for the cultural shift. Chelsea used to be synonymous with their musclebound steroid boys.
You really think they bought them at the gym? Cmon now. That gym was decent and also 24 hours at one time.
