Song of the Day: 'We Belong to the Night' by Ellen Foley

Was tickled to see Ellen Foley Wednesday at a stage reading for Michael Menzies' "Deeply Superficial: Marlene Dietrich, Noël Coward, and Me," based on his enchanting 2012 memoir of the same name. You might recall her (voice) best from singing alongside Meat Loaf on "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" -- although Karla DeVito is seen lipsynching to Foley's vocals in the video -- or as Billie on pre-Markie Post "Night Court."

I vaguely remember she was in a girl group in the late '80s called Pandora's Box -- their single "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" (that featured Elaine Caswell on lead) was later a huge hit for Celine Dion -- that disbanded after one album, 1989's "Original Sin." Foley is the kind of woman who never became a household name, but with small credits in "Hair," "Tootsie," "The King of Comedy," "Fatal Attraction" and "Cocktail" and a handful of major-label albums -- she dated Mick Jones of the Clash! -- could probably write a brilliant memoir.

Ellen Foley is from my hometown of St. Louis, and frequently came home to visit. This is how several of my friends got to meet Mick Jones (The Clash), when she brought her boyfriend home to meet the parents. I've seen the Polaroids!

Foley and Pat Benatar came out w albums the same day w radiators featured on the cover. Foley said she was devastated, but that's probably just a good story for the press.
