The Starting Line Nears Its Finish

Jesus Christ, say it isn't so: Jeremiah's Vanishing New York is reporting that The Starting Line, one of the longest-running retail shops from the gay heyday of Chelsea's 8th Avenue, is going out of business after 26 years. (I have to admit I tried to buy Christmas presents there and it didn't help that they don't open until noon!) It's been about 10 months since I wrote my Death of Chelsea's 8th Avenue post, yet the bleeding hasn't stopped, with the demise of Mary Ann's .Venus Diner (later The Fork), Koffeecake Cafe, Prova, Organic Avenue and so on.
