I'd assumed this feature was largely based on how you've been working in journalism and the newspaper business for the better part of three decades, and the hometown touch seemed obvious as well. I've personally always enjoyed the news-at-a-glance component, especially when accompanied by your commentary on any one particular developing story. I'd like to think you, rather than one vocal reader, ultimately determine what adds value to your own blog, but as long as you feel the paring back is warranted, okay. (I would suggest keeping WaPo since it's a threefer: your former DC stomping grounds, adds a national/political angle, and you've got close family on their editorial staff!)
