Where's the Sexy 'Stick in the Mud' Costume?

“Didn’t realize I was being offensive & didn’t mean to marginalize or appropriate Native American culture. Sorry! Pic deleted.”

Hispanic(y) friend: I wanted to ask you what you think of this whole 'You can't dress as a Native American for Halloween" thing?

Me: I think it's retarded.

Hispanic(y) friend: You can't say retarded.

Me: Jesus H. Christ.

Nearby woman taps me on the shoulder: Could you please not take the Lord's name in vain?

Me (eye roll): Even Bruce -- I mean Caitlyn Jenner said she thinks the whole backlash against the Caitlyn costume is stupid.

Hispanic(y) friend 2: Halloween is supposed to be fun, not bending over backward to be offended. Let's keep our eye on the real problem here.

Me: What next? Am I going to be told it's offensive that I co-opted being a woman because I dressed up as my neighbor Karen when I was 8?

Hispanic(y) friend: I've heard that argument before against drag.

Hispanic(y) friend 2: Oh, shit -- really? I'm just glad all this PC costume crap hadn't started before I went as "Get Christie Love!" and won that costume contest in Silverlake.

When I get angry at the bullshit, I go for full-on offensive just because it makes them angrier. It gets to the point where you want to brickup allies in the basement foundation because they want to appear so PC. The fun part is when you realize that some advocates for the progressive movement are actually the ones causing the problem, by targeting harmless moments and exploiting it for their own person gain. That's when I go to Lowes for some more mortar.

Well, as a quarter REAL Indian, as in Brahman Hindu, I take GREAT offense, IAM OUTRAGED, that Native Americans continue to appropriate our Indian name and hence marginalize those of us with TRUE Indian identity.

Oh wait, I forgot about when my brothers and I, some 50 years ago, donned Native American warrior costumes for Halloween. Never mind, my bad.

You posted a photo of Gus Kenworthy in Native American regalia and that is supposed to be offensive. It's not as if he had "REDSKIN" grease-painted on his chest. So where is the offense relative to freedom of expression? There are photos of Gus as a mouse and as a cop out on the internet as well. Should mice be offended at his dressing up like a mouse? Will PETA register a protest? Will cops be offended? If he dressed as a fireman, would they be offended?
