Have always loved Debbie Harry in this outfit, so was willing to overlook the fact that it was used as the model for her "Ladies of the '80s" Barbie doll, even though it's from her '70s heyday. But now that I'm seeing this photo (above) for the first time, I may very well have insisted they use it -- it's the hottest thing I've ever seen in my life!
I had A LOT of Blondie/Debbie merchandise growing up, but I was never able to get my hands on one of these "Plastic Letters" stand-ups ...
like the one Damone hit on while teaching Mark Ratner his "Five-Point Plan" in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High ...
nor did I ever get this "Blondie Does It" poster.
I did manage to get this T-shirt on St. Mark's Place, but only after I moved to NYC ...
Although I love Phillip Dixon's image on the finished "Plastic Letters" cover -- the title of which happened to be on a sign in the background so they used it -- I think this (above) ...
and this make ever better covers, but only because Debbie's beautiful face isn't obscured.

I had always coveted the in-store cardboard display for Plastic Letters - even saw it in person a few times over the years. But I never expected or tried to own one because who needs dashed expectations?
Then out of nowhere, this summer of 2015, a Twitter follower who knows Debbie is my Jesus of Cool, asked if I wanted his stand-up.
I assumed he was toying with me. Or wanted money for it.
But no - he'd had it forever (now folded up in storage), and with a major remodel starting on his home, he needed to clear stuff out. It was mine for free if I provided my address.

So I did.
And it now hangs in my home.
And every time I see it, I swoon inside without any guilt over loving a promotional item so damn much.
I'd put prayer candles at its feet and a pew in front of it if the room weren't so small because "I'm in heaven every time I look at you."
Well - Lorna Luft sang backing vocals on "Slow Motion" and she was kind of a Pink Lady in 'Grease 2'.
