Logo to Air 'Matt Shepard Is a Friend of Mine' on Monday, July 27

I remember this like it was yesterday. My friend Ken and I had recently moved to New York and he called to ask me if I'd heard the news of what they'd done to "that kid in Wyoming." I wish I never had to.

From a news release:
On Monday, July 27, Logo TV will be premiering the second documentary from its new Logo Documentary Films division. The film -- "Matt Shepard Is a Friend of Mine," from filmmaker Michele Josue -- interviews family, friends and the people who knew him best as well as police investigators, witnesses and the bartender who last saw him alive that fateful night nearly 20 years ago. On Oct. 7, 1998, University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard was brutally beaten, tied to a fence and left to die because he was gay. Now, Josue, who was a close friend of Matt’s, revisits the shocking case with never-before-seen photos and rare video footage, as Matt’s all-too-brief life is remembered through the vivid testimonies of those whose lives he touched.

The official trailer for the new award-winning documentary MATT SHEPARD IS A FRIEND OF MINE, which explores the life and tragic death of Matthew Shepard, the gay student brutally murdered in Laramie, Wyoming, in one of the most notorious hate crimes in U.S. history. Framed through the personal lens of friends and family, it’s a story of loss, love, and courage in the face of unspeakable tragedy.
