Song of the Day: 'Teenage Enema Nurses in Bondage' by Killer Pussy

Nearly died when my friend Mark informed me that Killer Pussy had attempted to play in Phoenix over the weekend -- only to have it broken up by the cops! For the uninitiated, KP -- with feisty lead singer Lucy LaMode -- were the Valley's coolest new wave band of the early '80s. A cross between the B-52's and the Waitresses -- only raunchier and not really like either -- Killer Pussy released a legendary four-song EP in 1982 called "Teenage Enema Nurses in Bondage" that my brother picked up in college. It didn't take long for me and my best friends Mark and Greg to become their biggest fans -- KROQ in L.A. loved 'em too! -- only we were too young and too uncool to ever sneak into any of their gigs. Within a year or two, however, we began reading in the New Times that various members of the band had mysteriously died of hepatitis, which years later had me wondering if it was really HIV related, and the band broke up. Happy to see Lucy is alive and well -- and looking great -- and responded via Facebook that the band plans to do another show soon!
