Beast of Burden No More

Many thanks to Tim Teeman for his nice profile on me for The Daily Beast. (Read HERE.)

I must confess it was pretty unsettling seeing your life pared down into 400 words -- he included THAT?!!! -- but it's 100 percent accurate, and once I got over the initial shock I realized it does a great job of capturing the essence of my book, and me. The last time I was profiled and didn't get to see the finished product before it was distributed was for a company newsletter twenty years ago. I thought of that yesterday when I read that Rosie O'Donnell had answered truthfully back in 1992 when a reporter for Cosmopolitan magazine asked her if she was gay, but that Helen Gurley Brown talked her out of including the quote. (She wouldn't come out publicly for another 10 years.) The same thing happened to me when I worked for PR Newswire. I had told the woman writing the piece for the newsletter that I lived with my boyfriend Rafael, but her boss made her change it to "roommate" for fear of it hurting me professionally. Today's piece lets it all hang out -- and I must say it does feel good!  Thanks, Tim.
