Madonna Pays Tribute to Sire Records Founder Seymour Stein

The inaugural CBGB Icon Award was presented to Seymour Stein last night at the kick-off to CBGB Music & Film Festival. As described in the press material, Seymour brought Madonna, Depeche Mode, The Cure and an almost endless list of other prolific acts to prominence as head of Sire Records. Much of Sire's roster including The Ramones, Talking Heads and The Dead Boys were discovered at CBGB, making Stein the perfect choice to be the first recipient of this annual award.

In a loving statement read by Stein's daughter Mandy, Madonna described Stein in this way:
He has Golden Ears
A Golden Heart
And a beautiful Soul that is unique and rare.
CBGB's is Iconic.
Sire Records is Iconic
Seymour Stein is not only Iconic but a true legend.

The CBGB Music &; Film Festival 2013 takes place on October 8-13 in New York City and will feature hundreds of bands in over 175 venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The event will also host more than 125 speakers and 100 new music themed feature films and documentaries. As reported in The New York Times, one of the many highlights of the Festival is the free outdoor concert in Times Square, this Saturday October 12th.
