They don't call Detroit the Motor City for nothing, so we made the most of driving around town -- making "Michigan lefts" and cranking the radio. Was delighted by the abundance of early Madonna (got chills when "Dress You Up" came on as we entered the city) and Monkees songs that filled the airwaves. Also heard David Bowie's "Let's Dance," which suddenly made me regret skipping seeing him on his summer tour in '83.
