Harris Poll

I've never seen this show once -- my brother swears by it -- but it's sure been on forever. Bruce LaBruce recently described Nail Patrick Harris as being "bad gay camp," a description that made me laugh:
[He's] the poster boy for the new assimilationist gay, so that probably amounts to bad gay camp. She's like an episode of "Will & Grace."

Neil Patrick Harris is who he is. Why should any of us be forced into being someone we're not, or chastised for living our life in a way that Bruce LaBruce doesn't like? Fuck that. He's out, he has a very public life with his fiance and two kids. He's charming, funny, and talented. America loves him, and has accepted him as a straight lothario on TV for eight years, while he his life as an out gay man. When he came out publicly, people shrugged and said "who cares," which is awesome. Why he should be condemned for any of that is completely beyond me.

The show is well done. The continuity they have in storylines, visuals, and carried over scenes is possibly the best I've ever experienced. Yes, this season hasn't been A-1, but compared to the other crap out there.....it's a solid show.

The Bob Saget framing of the show long ago got old, and not particularly believable. But the actors and the characters are great. And NPH has forever challenged the notion that a "gay" can't play a straight horndog. There's a knowing wink to all kinds of tropes from HIMYM that makes it a notch above most sitcoms.

What's with the attacks on NPH? I don't get it.
