A Little 'Respect' From Pope Francis

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Argentina was announced as the Catholic Church's new pope Wednesday night. For those hoping for a more progressive leader, here's what I know about the fresh 76(!)-year-old Jesuit: He calls adoption by gays and lesbians is a "form of discrimination against children," yet urges  "respect" for homosexuals. And on the passage of marriage equality in Argentina: "Let's not be naive, we're not talking about a simple political battle; it is a destructive pretension against the plan of God. We are not talking about a mere bill, but rather a machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God."

 How respectful.

When we will have a progressive, gay-friendly pope hell will froze over...

The man is the leader of 1.2 billion people of a RELIGIOUS GROUP!!!! He believes what he was taught...... yes, his views are what they are because his God taught him that...... BUT!!!!!! NOONE asked him to have to go an extra mile to even mention showing compassion or RESPECT to gay people. Over a billion people got that message from who they see as the all time athourity besides God. And those billion people will follow his words of RESPECTING GAYS..... as a nurse who cares for 13 yr old boys who tried to commit suicide bc they are gay, its a wonderful thing to hear a pope say....... and i RESPECT him back for standing for what he believes in, even if its not the same as me. U can ask a congressman to allow gay marriage, but dont chastise a man whos sole purpose is to uphold what his church believes and ESPECIALLY for not leaving out loving ALL people. :) dont be mad..... what if he himself is gay amd became a priest because he believed that he shouldnt act on it. Closeted gay people have , in a way, gotten protected and shown love. They need it too!!!! I know some of my boys who ended up in my states paper after killing themselves might have chosen to live if they heard that :) hope im not offending anyone...... just feeling what the pope did ....... LOVING everyone but choosing what I feel in my heart whats right :) thank you guys. Pray or meditate to my little teens who took their lives okay? :)

The new pope previously went into a hospice where he washed and kissed the feet of a dozen aids patients.

He declined the palace and limo afforded a cardinal in favour of a small bed in an apartment, and a bus ride. He refused even new cardinal robes, instead choosing used garments.

I'll give the guy a chance. I'm not so much interested in how he treats people he agrees with, but how he treats people he disagrees with.

It angers me that people actually care about this ridiculous pretend institution.
