Song of the Day: 'Temporary Beauty' by Graham Parker

Graham Parker probably would have been a household name if not for Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello filling the quirky British new wave-ish singer/songwriter role slightly better in the late '70s and early '80s. Still, Parker's "Local Girls," "Wake Up (Next to You)" and, especially, "Temporary Beauty" are jukebox and early MTV classics. I hear Parker and his band the Rumour are about to get a star turn in Judd Apatow's "This Is 40," which is either cool or totally annoying depending on your nostalgia point of view.

I am also fond of this song. But am I the only one who thinks the tune is VERY similar to Squeeze's "Up the Junction" (1982)? They were both popular around the same time, so it always puzzled me that I have never heard a single comment on the similarity. Check out "Up the Junction" and see if you don't agree: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQciegmLPAo
