Not only did Obama get reelected, we made gains in the Senate, the first lesbian was elected to the U.S. Senate, marriage equality was upheld in four states, AND that bitch of a mayor in Troy, Michigan, Janice Daniels, was shown the door! While texting the good news back and forth with my little sister in Arizona -- mentioning the marriage equality victories and Obama's overall LGBT stance, and how it's made my life so much better in the last four years -- her words made me happy and sad.
She replied:
It's just sad [that as others get equal respect, some feel like something is being taken from them]. Some people are just crazy! But even as I try to grow in my own faith, I know this is wrong. It's never an answer to make others feel awful for anything. To which I replied:
Shouldn't people's love and acceptance grow BECAUSE of their faith, not in spite of it?!!!To which she replied:
YES! I wonder why they feel so "robbed"? Don't people ever get tired of being bullies? It then got more sweet and personal, but it really made me sad that someone who is exploring her faith -- we were raised in a completely secular home -- sounds like she is hearing anti-gay rhetoric along the way. I'm fortunate that my sister is smart enough to rise above that, but I know so many people whose families are not. But all I have to say is what is WRONG with people?

People of true faith like my mother, believe the table is big enough for everyone. She believes we lead by example and, we also show people the love of God by the love in our own hearts.
"And now these three remain , faith , hope and love and the greatest of these is love Corinthians 13-13".
Kenneth, it's so much easier to hate that which you don't know, then try to be tolerant and understanding. That, unfortunately, is what's wrong with people. Rise above, everyday.
