Snap: Anderson Rips Star Jones a New One

Today's "Anderson Live" will likely win a GLAAD award for "gayest talk show episode" ever. First, Anderson Cooper had Andy Cohen as his guest host. Then Queen Latifah came out-- talk about an elephant in the room -- to promote her remake of "Steel Magnolias." In between begging AC to take his shirt off, Andy and the Queen started threatening to take the Coop's "gay card" away when he said he'd never seen the original, a claim I was skeptical of despite the fact that I haven't either. I felt entitled to be incredulous when he then claimed he'd also never seen "Beaches" -- I have several times -- explaining that he'd "been working since he was 10" or something. (Did Mom hire child labor for those jeans of hers?)

As campy as all of this was -- AC kept calling Andy Cohen "Andy Cohn" -- "you're like an ice cream cone flavor!" he purred -- the real bitch fest happened earlier in the show when I was in the shower. Andy apparently asked Anderson about his whole coming out experience and AC said the only thing that had bothered him was when his mom told him that Star Jones accused him of only doing it to "boost his ratings." That's when Miss Cooper had enough:
"I will say and I actually haven't mentioned this, the only thing that did kind of annoy me and actually it annoyed my mom who brought it up to me, Star Jones of all people." He continued, "I haven't thought about Star Jones in I don't know how long. I was unaware she was even on TV still ... but she apparently shows up on a morning show." "Out of the blue Star Jones ... said this was a ratings ploy by me to boost ratings." "If I was wanting to boost ratings, I would have waited to announce it on 'A Very Special Episode' that would have been promo'd for weeks and weeks and there would have been commercials ... 'Anderson's Huge Announcement.'" "As memory serves, in terms of boosting ratings, I seem to recall [Star] hocking her wedding every single day to get free products when she was on 'The View' and I seem to recall her lying about her gastric bypass surgery and making everybody else lie about it as well. So for her to suddenly emerge out of the shadows and suddenly attack me for this, I couldn't believe it." Cooper says he invited Star to his show to discuss her comments, but she turned him down. "I would think she would want as much publicity as possible given her penchant for wanting publicity."

Wow. Star Jones is a silly person, we all know it. But that was pretty harsh. AC does seem to like to let loose on people with whom he has issues. There's always something to get pissed about. AC, I've met you, I like you, and you are a cool-headed guy. But you also road rage on people at the drop of a hat. Chill the eff out!
