You Cannot Be Siri-ous!!!!

After switching to a BlackBerry from a touchscreen not-so-smartphone a couple years ago (the LG Dare), I finally started to think it was time to move to into the 21st century. After much debate between Android and iPhones (a handful of my best pals swear by Droids, as does my brother), Michael finally decided he wanted an iPhone (his two best friends at work sold him big-time, and promised this flip-phone user they'd help him out if he took the plunge) so he got us His and His 4s models on Sunday, one black and one white. His Zune-using nephew immediately declared that we had gone to the "dark side" -- and God knows no one has to sell me on being anti-Apple -- but it's been a few hours and despite my absolute fear of change, I haven't had a nervous breakdown yet. My pal John from AmericaBlog says the Blogger app has numerous problems, but besides downloading it, I haven't played with it much. Still, Twitter and Facebook are up and running, so I'm pretty much back to where I was with my BlackBerry -- so I remain cautiously optimistic. Welcome to 2007, Kenny!

Now, who has app recommendations?

Hey if you need any app suggestions, just ask your readers. There are a lot of good freebies out there... and yeh, I know Apple can be bastards, but the product is solid.

You'll love it.

Apple makes a great phone and has great service, provided you purchased your iPhone directly from Apple and purchased AppleCare.

The Facebook program has issues. One would think that a company as large as Facebook could create a iOS app that worked. The Twitter program is okay.

I'm waiting to see what Apple offers this year before upgrading again. I'm looking forward to Siri.

Angry Birds, of course! I use a replacement for the native calendar called Pocket Informant, which I much prefer. Wikipanion if you use Wikipedia - better than the Wiki-provided app. OpenTable has a great app if you use them. UrbanSpoon and Yelp for restaurants. GrubHub and SeamlessWeb both have good apps for ordering delivery food. Amazon, Groupon, Red Laser. iHandy Flashlight. And the TKTS app if you like theater in NYC.

I strongly recommend the SquareTrade warranty, rather than AppleCare. Covers more and lasts longer.

Draw Something, Scramble with Friends, or Words with Friends. Let me know if you sign up and I will play with you. You will love your new iPhone...I was skeptical at first but I love it!

Shazam remains one of my favorites ... hear a song and want it, but don't know it, hit Shazam, and it will get you name of song, lyrics, and you can purchase it right then.

also excellent for old guys who are sitting around debating, "I know it sounds like Sting, but I'll bet you 20 that it isn't."

Smart choice -- I hate my slick new Android, even after 5 months of verbally abusing it.

Apps to get: First, get a security program (I use Lookout). Then, get a battery life extender (I use Juice Defender).

Yes to Shazam and to a flashlight program -- don't wait until after the blackout to download it. Too late, sucker.

Hopstop is good, too, provided you should ever dare to leave your quaint little gay ghetto. Could happen. (And no, hitting the Keith Haring exhibit in BK hardly counts as leaving the gay ghetto.)

Your bank probably has an app. The Weather Channel is good, too, and I use Evernote for typing messages, reminders, great ideas for columns, hate mail, etc.
