Postcard From Madrid

As horrifying as it is to admit, seeing Roger Federer and Serena Williams come out on top in Madrid over the weekend was a regular Golden Oldie flashback moment.

They're both 30 years old now -- way past their "best by" dates -- but watching them play, it was a nice refresher why they dominated the aughts so much. (Poor Victoria Azarenka might need to call Caroline Wozniacki for a shoulder to cry on. You're Number 1?????)

For no reason, Will Smith handed out the trophy -- apparently "Men in Black III" had its European premiere this weekend -- but I certainly never object to seeing Josh Brolin in the stands.

While I saw rumored-to-be-history Jada Pinkett with hubby Will in the stands, I didn't recognize the woman with Brolin -- other than her not being Diane Lane.

This win moves Federer above arch-nemesis Rafael Nadal in the world rankings. Not sure what's more improbable about this: That at 30 Fed would finally overtake Nadal in the rankings, or that he would overtake him, but still not be No. 1! This reshuffling will surely help Roger going into the Slams -- he might have won the French again last year if he hadn't had to beat Novak Djokovic and Nadal.
