Had the thrill of a lifetime yesterday lunching with legendary anti-war and civil rights activist -- and fellow Sun Devil -- David Mixner, who regaled me with stories of gay life in the '50s (scary!), advising world leaders (scarier!) and locker-room sex while playing football at Arizona State. (Go, team!) I've long admired the man Newsweek once dubbed the Most Powerful Gay Man in America -- if you're not familiar with him, he's featured on the new Out 100 and writes an eclectic blog HERE -- and feel certain he will soon have his own chapter in California's gay history textbooks. (We have him and his then-lover, Peter Scott, to thank for helping stop Proposition 6 from becoming law in 1978, not to mention being the first to tell his buddy Bill Clinton that his "don't ask, don't tell" compromise sucked ass -- and not in a good way.)

In the meantime, David's new memoir, "At Home With Myself: Stories From the Hills of Turkey Hollow" comes out today, and as you can see from his inscription, this man's got a way with words! (Thanks, David. The pleasure was all mine.)
