NYC Subway System Turns 107 Today!

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority reminds us that New York City's subway system began 107 years ago today, when "the first subway train rolled north of the old City Hall Station on October 27, 1904." I'm a HUGE fan of the subway -- I actually prefer it to cabs in almost all situations (faster) and use it so often that I get car sick whenever I have to ride in a taxi (bad drivers and NYC traffic don't help) -- and don't anticipate ever buying another car again in my lifetime. New Yorkers frequently like to bitch about the trains -- "the 1 is the worst!" -- but I honestly can't imagine life without it. Happy birthday!

I'm with you all the way! I love not having to have a car, and taking cabs makes me crazy. They drive like maniacs and the traffic is insane. (Although I do wish that people would not stand in the doorway and that large groups of Century 21 bag-toting tourists would find another way around town on weekends). And the guy watching on subways is the best!
