Wow! Dying over here having just listened to the Primitives' reunion EP, "Never Kill a Secret," the group's first recordings in 20 years. I'd always been a fan of the band's infectious 1988 indie smash, "Crash," but it took Boston reader Taffy to get me to dig a little deeper. In more recent years I've bought up the band's full catalog, but this was the first I'd heard about the comeback. Although I need another reunited '80s band like most probably need another CD tower -- both Blondie and Bangles concerts are prominently noted in my FiloFax -- I can't resist any of these four sweet tracks, especially the singalong-ready single "Rattle My Cage" and the delightful cover of Toni Basil's "Breakaway," which was the title song from a Bruce Conner film in which the "Mickey" singer appeared, and the b-side to the famed choreographer's debut single, the Graham Gouldman-penned "28."
The EP is available on iTunes HERE -- and is currently streaming over HERE. A welcome return to an underrated band that kinda got lost in the blond movement shuffle of the early 1990s. Now can the Darling Buds reunion be far behind?
