He's Coming Out (He Wants the World to Know -- or at Least His Dad)

Soldier stationed in Germany comes out to his dad in Alabama on the day "don't ask, don't tell" is abolished. It's powerful stuff, although I feel almost uncomfortable eavesdropping on this most private moment although the anticlimactic moment sure rings a bell. (Via Gawker

UPDATE: I was right, Dad wasn't too thrilled about this intimate moment being played out for the world either, although he's proud of his son nonetheless.

UPDATE 2: Checking in with Randy Phillips in 2018.

One word - REALLY ?

Love the snarky comments not. This guy and the others like him, whether high school kids or soldiers who decide they're going to stand up - are people who will make it easier for the generation that follows. He has been very brave at his own personal risk. So I applaud him for his honesty. And I am very happy that the ending was anticlimactic.
