I'd like to believe this ad from the U.S. Government -- said to be designed "to encourage more immigrants to become American citizens and become more integrated into society" -- was made with good intentions. But the first thing that came to my mind after looking at the face of this Filipino-born woman and reading the fine print was -- as opposed to the worthless piece of shit you were before?
Note to America: You don't need to "sell" many immigrants on the benefits of being an American -- that's candy (nearly) everybody wants. Besides, aren't half of our elected officials the ones who keep screaming about how "they're" all coming here and "taking over," so obviously you know about the demand. (And for the ones who prefer to live here as green-card holders, are they really our nation's biggest problem?) So instead of wasting taxpayers' time and money on patronizing posters, how about getting off your self-interested asses and passing immigration reform that can make all Americans proud -- or at least the half who know what being one is truly about.

You'd be surprised, Ken, that more likely than not, she probably was a worthless piece of shit back in the Philippines, since wages and opportunities there are hard to come by. I should know, I immigrated from the P.I. too, with no real good jobs to be had.
Unlike most of the my fellow filipino immigrants tho, some of them are content in their green cards which allows them to stay in the country, and not convert it to U.S. citizenship after the mandatory 5 year waiting period. I did that the moment it happened, but countless others don't. I think that is the point of the ad. for being a citizen means, among countless other things, voting rights, and if you're filipino, 80% of the time you are a Democrat.
Also, some Filipinos think of converting their green cards to citizenships as a means of surrendering to the American way, and instead staying in their "Manila ghettos" and delaying integration. It's a real problem.
