Going the Distance

Sure, theater isn't my favorite thing. But when you throw 6-1, ex-Mormon, openly gay Claybourne Elder onto the stage -- as a young Navy boxer who loses an arm in an auto accident and then becomes a male hustler -- I'm suddenly Rosie O'Donnell! (And you know I have a thing for one-armed love bandits!)

"One Arm" -- based on a 1940s short story and 1967 unproduced screenplay by Tennessee Williams -- has been adapted into an 85-minute one-act play directed by theatrical heavyweight Moises Kaufman ("The Laramie Project," "I Am My Own Wife," "33 Variations.") Act quickly -- the show's limited engagement ends July 2. (“One Arm” is a production of the New Group and the Tectonic Theater Project.)
