RIP, Betty Garrett

It's probably selfish to be angry that a 91-year-old has died. But when it's the first neighbor you remember as a kid and your first landlord -- who dated your best friend's dad -- it is particularly upsetting, so you'll have to forgive me. We'll miss you, Mrs. Lorenzo / Mrs. Babish. (Didn't even know she'd starred with Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly in "On the Town" or had been a victim of McCarthyism -- she led quite an interesting life!)

Betty Garrett's Irene was a perfect foil for Carroll O'Connor's Archie Bunker and she meshed well with the slapstick antics on "L & S". 91 years of age is a good life - thanks for the laughs, Betty - R.I.P.
