Tom Ford Covers Interview Magazine

INTERVIEW magazine picks (gay) man's man Tom Ford for the cover of its men's issue. The designer turned director reveals that when at home, he does everything naked, yet concedes: "When I look in the mirror, I say, 'Well, this eyebrow is starting to sag,” or “I’ve eaten too much. I need to do a few more push-ups.' But that’s completely separate from me as a human being.”
(Everything looks good to me.)

Ford talks at length about "A Single Man" -- "it was really my midlife crisis on the screen!" -- and says the lead was "very, very, very autobiographical and very different from the character in the Isherwood book," and that all the attention to clothing and details is "really about putting on a sort of armor to go out in the world." He also says the character played by Julianne Moore was "quite literally based on my grandmother," whose larger-than-life persona was so different from his childhood in New Mexico. "When I was a child it was really like she was from another planet. It seemed like she lived in a different world, and wherever that was, I wanted to go."
