Li Na: A Star Is Born

Caught the second half of Li Na's "upset" of No. 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki last night in Melbourne. I just love the way Li plays -- stepping in and taking the ball early and aggressively (shouldn't all world-class players be able to do that?).

It's hard to really "dislike" Wozniacki -- she's far too boring for that. But she is like a poor-man's Martina Hingis. She came along at just the right time to be able to rise to the top -- only she did it with the Oughties panache of Dinara Safina, Jelena Jankovic and pre-2005 Kim Clijsters before her (i.e., with no Grand Slam titles). Didn't surprise me Li beat her, and made her top ranking all the more laughable by doing it after having Wozinacki held a match point.

Now if she can just not pull a Sam Stosur in the final.
