The days of sitcom theme songs are long gone -- the networks decided long ago that you had to launch into the show ASAP or risk losing the audience. But if the defense ever needed proof that they shouldn't have been executed, the opening credits to "Angie" -- with adorable Donna Pescow (fresh from "Saturday Night Fever"), hunky Robert Hays and quirky but lovable Debralee Scott (the queen of the "$20,000 Pyramid") -- set to Maureen McGovern's "Different Worlds" (all 1 minute and 40 seconds of it!) would be the first witness I'd call to the stand. If "Mary Tyler Moore" had me believing Minneapolis was THE place to be, "Angie" had me ready to pack up and head to the city of Brotherly Love. And if Buffy and Jody's New York hadn't already stolen my heart, I may very well have ended up there by now ...

"Angie"--another reason why you rule! I thought I was the only person who remembered the show! And on the show opening/theme song thing, I've commented before that I used to love how on some shows as each star came on screen they made some cheesy expression as their name rolled...good times!!
GOD, I loved ANGIE & the theme.
my god Robert Hayes was beautiful back then. i'd sell my soul for hair like that.
Debralee Scott will be forever known as the sweathog Rosalie "Hotsy" Totsy from Welcome Back, Kotter -- and for the circumstances surrounding her bizarre death in 2005.
ANGIE was a great show, until ABC bounced bounced it around the schedule during its second and last season - the theme song was great and Doris Roberts was born to play the meddlesome mother like she did to Emmy-award winning acclaim on "Everybody Loves Raymond". Too bad Debralee Scott passed away though...
You never cease to amaze me. Thanks for putting the "Angie" theme song on your blog. I remember begging my parents to let me watch that show when I was 10 or 11 years old. I'll never forget my dad giving me a funny look as if to say, "Oh Lord." Is there anyone sexier than Robert Hayes circa 1980?
I'm with the other commenters here, Kenneth. Just WOW. What a treat to see Angie again. And the weird thing is, I still have the theme song memorized after all these years. I can't have been more than eight when this show aired.
Most of the cable network shows have pretty great opening theme song sequences: Dexter, Nurse Jackie, United States of Tara, True Blood, Mad Men, etc, etc. It's also a category at the Emmys.
This was my favorite TV theme song of the 70s (the full version is better than the one that aired), but they should have known (after The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure) that Maureen McGovern is the kiss of death!
I think Robert Hays (hubba-hubba) may have been one of my first clues that I was gay at 11 or 12. And I loved Debralee Scott. Thanks for the memories, Kenneth.
LOVED "Angie" but two of my all-time favorite opening theme is PHYLLIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8--8V7bVeI), that made me want to move to San Francisco. (Although RHODA convinced me to go to NYC instead.) By the way, PHYLLIS and RHODA are currently being shown twice-day on ALN (channel 243 on FIOS in NYC/NJ)!
