Although it stars two guys I love and is directed by the great Jay Roach (aka Mr. Susanna Hoffs), I must say "Dinner for Schmucks" doesn't look very tasty to me. Of course, I am basing this on the poster (Steve Carell with blond hair? PUNCH!), the same technique that led me to falsely assume "Meet the Parents" would suck (it was HILARIOUS!). Nonetheless, the guys looked great at the premiere last night at the Ziegfeld Theatre, as you can see here:

Paul Rudd (nice tie!)

Steve Carell

Ron Livingston (aka The Hottest Man Carrie Ever Dated)
Zach Galifianakis
Larry Wilmore

Ronnie Kroell and
his lover, Taylor Proffitt(UPDATE: Just watched the "Dinner for Schmucks" trailer -- it looks REALLY bad.)

It's a remake of _Le Dîner de Cons_ (1998) that was absolutely wonderful. Definitely worth a rental. There's plenty of comedy in the French original, but I fear that the American version will overdo the slapstick to bolster Carrell's "star power." I think Rudd was a great choice as the straight man.
More important, though, will be if they can pull off the ending from the original without coming off as trite or twee. This I doubt.
Something about Steve Carell just fascinates me. There's danger there lurking. Call me, Steve.
