God, I just realized it was 20 years ago this week that I packed up my VW Rabbit and left Phoenix for the Southland. (I'm having Cinco de Mayo flashbacks!) After landing at my friend Mark's apartment in Huntington Beach, I quickly found work through a temp agency at McDonnell Douglas before landing my first "real" job as a researcher for The Orange Country Register. A year later I was living on South Bundy Drive with my friend James before moving to West Hollywood, where I unwittingly became roommates and good friends with legendary porn star Mike Henson (or Ken Seymour, as I knew him). When I left the City of Angels for the East Coast a few years later I never looked back. Still, my annual trips back are always a highlight of my year, and a reminder why being bicoastal would really suit me well.
