What Brown Can Do for You

I'm furious about these borderline-obstructionist Democrats who don't seem to recognize that abortion is a legal medical procedure. And I'm hugely disappointed that there's no public option. But at least Nancy Pelosi had the balls to force the Dems to succeed at something, even when our president was more than ready to throw in the towel and settle for something even weaker just because Scott Brown won one Senate seat. Still, it's a momentous occasion and he deserves to be proud, even it really seems like he really let it get away from him. While it would be great if this were the start of something much bigger, sadly the rest of the year will be wasted on the mid-term elections. At this rate, we will be lucky if the Dems get one more thing done before the 2012 president election (god help us all). A good night, just wish I could be happier about it.

The best way to ease your mind about the things you don't like about the bill is this: if they didn't pass SOMETHING now, the next chance would probably be 10-20 years away.

It's hard to have faith in Congress, but hopefully they can build on this. Excise things that don't work, add things that do. But if they'd failed, there would be no chance at all until we're senior citizens.

I think that the rabid opposition to this will burn out by November, at least I hope it will. Americans have notoriously short memories, and countless "urgent" outrages will fester between now and then. Where's Natalee Holloway or the Balloon Boy when you need him?
