What in 'Tarnation'?

Remember "Tarnation," that chilling documentary by young Jonathan Caouette about growing up with his schizophrenic mother in Texas? The film was mixture of snapshots, Super-8 footage, answering machine messages, video diaries and early short films, and included one of the most mesmerizing moments ever captured on film when an elementary-school-aged Jonathan performs a melodramatic monologue as a woman stuck in an abusive relationship (chills). Well, after receiving the support of Gus Van Sant and John Cameron Mitchell and rave reviews, I haven't heard anything from Caouette since. So imagine my surprise when I saw his son interviewed in The New York Times the other day, discussing how he'd recently left Texas to come live with his dad and his dad's lover in Astoria, Queens. IMDB says the boy, Josh, appeared in "Tarnation," but I don't remember that at all. (How could I, though? All I can think of his mom singing "The Pumpkin Song" over and over and over and over ...)

Listen to young Josh's interview HERE.
