Music Box: Natalie Imbruglia

Am digging the new Natalie Imbruglia song, "Want," off her new "Come to Life" album. My pal Jesse gingerly recommended it to me ("Do you know who that 'Torn' girl is?" he asked, thoughtfully remembering my '90s music blackout period), noting that it sounds like "disco Kate Bush." (Fun!) Hard to believe she wrote it with Chris Martin, which I'm willing to overlook if she's really dining Gerard Butler. (Funner!) The video is great, too. Sort of a cross between Belinda Carlisle and Susanna Hoffs, all of whom can be easily forgiven for filming thousands of close-ups of themselves for four minutes. Natalie even videotapes herself in action! Oh, and for the record: I had heard of Nat. "Torn" may have come out in '97, but it's still one of the most-played songs of all time.

I have been obsessed with this new Natalie Imbruglia album for a month or so now. It's on a very strange release schedule. CD pressing are currently only available in Malaysia and Japan I beleive. UK gets a physical CD in January. It's available digitally most regions of the world, except for the USA (go figure).

I will not rest until you realize the brilliance of Regina Spektor. A Liz Phair-level discovery, she is.
