Cher Tactics

Cher outside the Martin Beck Theater, circa 1982

From The Times' ongoing Stage Door Snapshots feature, where fans send in photos of their favorite star sightings on the Great White Way. I never saw the stage production, but I ADORED Cher in Robert Altman's film adaptation of "Come Back to the 5 and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" almost as much as I loved her old nose and teeth (so cute!):

Larry Zimmerman writes:

"Cher emerged from the stage door and there was a crush to get near her for an autograph. She walked slowly through the crowd, with her head down, signing as many programs as she could.

"When she reached me, I asked if I could have a picture. 'Sure,' she said. She looked up for the camera and the crowd exploded in cheers because it was the first -- and only time -- Cher's full face was visible to the fans who had been waiting for her.

"'Oh my God, this is a mad house,' she said, with a chuckle."
