The film follows the quixotic designer through the final two years of his legendary career leading up to his 45th anniversary gala and his fall 2007 retirement. The voyeuristic look at his life of wealth and glamour -- how many of you have Joan Collins, Gwyneth Paltrow and a handful of royals over for dinner on the same night? -- and the footage of fashion shows, fittings and temper tantrums -- all peppered with Valentino's priceless wit -- will delight you. But it's the stark look at the designer's relationship with his long-suffering partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, that will choke you up. They may have known they were being followed by a camera crew, but not even the best actors in the world could disguise the unique emotional bond between these two men. Thanks for profiling this! I went to see it on Friday night - Director Matt Tyrnaur and Vogue Editor Andre Leon Talley were there to introduce the 10:00 pm show. They had done the Q&A for the 8:00 show, and stayed to meet with the audience for the next viewing, unannounced, which was a really classy thing to do. I hope people do catch this documentary - it is so well done.
