Via the City Room: Gov. David A. Paterson, the Rev. Al Sharpton and others expressed concern on Wednesday morning over an editorial cartoon in The New York Post that showed a police officer, having shot a chimpanzee, saying to his colleague, “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.”
God knows I have no problem with politically incorrect humor. But with a HUGE caveat: It has to be funny. But as is too-often the case, Delonas takes the short cut that is neither humorous nor insightful -- or even logical: Putting the obvious racism aside, are cops against the stimulus plan? Shouldn't it be Eric Cantor or John Boehner (disguised as cops or something) pulling the trigger? It still would be disgustingly offensive and NOT the least bit funny, but at least it would make a little "sense."

He's an infamous racist homophobe, but anyway, the cartoon makes perfect sense—the joke is that the actual author of the stimulus plan is the crazy chimp who cops had to shoot. The cops aren't against the stimulus, they're just gunning down the chimp because as we know the chimp lost it and attacked someone. But I liked Sharpton's "troubling at best" analysis.
While I'm not sure if this cartoon was done in good taste, I think the artist may have been referencing the chimpanzee attack from a few days ago, in which the chimpanzee was shot by police. Apparently, this was the same chimp that used to appear in those Old Navy commercials.
It's the NY Post. You're asking way too much when you ask for it to make sense. They're just catering to the low intelligence and racist attitudes of the average NYP reader. I can't believe anyone picks up that rag anymore.
Barack Obama didn't write the bill. Pelosi and the others did. Barack simply gave guidelines, and approved it. So it was NOT a "shot" at his ethnicity, but to the craziness of Pelosi; who was caught yelling at Reid for making changes she didn't want.
Racism?? Come on Kenneth. It is in bad taste but racist? Pelosi wrote it just like others have said. Always remember - If we look for hate, we will find hate.
I think that you're all way off the mark! The chimp is AIDS and the cops are Lifetime TV and the producers of PROJECT RUNWAY! Get with it, people! WE'RE BEING ATTACKED! By "we" I mean Hispanics.
Seriously people, despite the fact that Pelosi and others wrote the bill, it's an obvious attack on Obama.
