Photo Flashback: New Year's Eve 1998

Was going through some old photo albums (back when I "did" actual photo albums) and came across these photos from my first New Year's Eve in New York, which I spent my late friend Larry Brickman, his then-boyfriend Kevin Gonzalez and our pal David Cartalla (was that REALLY 10 years ago?). The evening started at my place in Chelsea (below) and then moved to my onetime fave bar Hell (now long gone) over in the Meatpacking District. It was a fun if early night as I recall. Dave's a teetotaler and when Larry was in a relationship he was prone to going to bed very early. I swear at 12:05 they were calling it a night so I was home by 12:15. Feeling like a loser I went back out and partied till sunrise at Splash! I miss my Lar (and very rarely see Kevin these days) and Dave recently moved to Albuquerque. Looking at these photos reminds me how fleeting these moments can be and makes me really want to stop and breathe in the moments I share with people I care about.

Thanks for sharing your memories and your photos with us! I agree that time goes so quickly and people are wrapped up in their own busy lives, that it's a good thing to stop and think about how fortunate we are to be surrounded by those we care about - and to make sure they know how special they are.

Happy New Year, Kenneth!

Did David stop dating Mark? How long ago? We left DC in '98 and Dav and Mark had been in New York for a while!
