If You Can't Stand the Heat ...

Couldn't stomach it

Defending champion Novak Djokovic collapsed under the sweltering Australian sun today, forcing him to retire in his quarterfinal showdown against Andy Roddick. The American was leading 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-2, 2-1 when the third-seeded Serb called it quits, maintaining Roddick’s streak of semifinal appearances at Melbourne Park every alternate year since 2003.

Okay, I can't begin to imagine playing in that heat, but Novak needed to just cowboy up, stick around ten more minutes, and take this loss like a pro. Does any top male player retire more often than he does? And he's defending his title!

On a slightly different note, let me add that I enjoy how much Roddick adjusts his package.

Sometimes I think guys (not limited to tennis) just pull up their shirt and wipe their forehead sweat just so we can see their abs. And hey, that's fine with me!
