Homo Improvement

(File photo)

So I just got home from having dinner with my friend Jay. It was for his birthday -- more than a month ago -- but we've both been so busy that we just now finally had a chance to celebrate. Because he had to work so late (he didn't get off till 9:30) we decided to break with our chain-eatery tradition and just go local, so I picked Crispo down on 14th Street. The food was excellent (their amatriciana sauce is to-die-for!) and I don't even want to talk about the jumbo chocolate chip cookies that mysteriously wound up in our stomachs.

Now I'm home and checking in on my project from earlier today. Yes, I DID IT! I (somehow) successfully managed to paint my desk, although it's still drying and keeping Larry away from it isn't easy. I think it looks way better than it did before, although I'm not 100 percent thrilled with the color. It's too red-burgundy instead of brown-burgundy (why wasn't there a cordovan paint like I asked for?). Michael thinks once I have all my "crap" back in place I won't even notice, which is probably true. See for yourself below:

Just a lonely old table ... cleaned and ready to go. First, out come the drawers ...

Here's Lar, "helping" Daddy. First in the left drawer ...

And now in the right drawer ...

And here's the (still-wet) "finished" product. Not too shabby, eh?

The table looks fantastic. I love the photo that shows the towering stack of CDs to the left!

Martha Stewart would be so pleased. And that's a good thing!

Much better, and the color will probably grow on you. I have no idea how you are keeping Larry away from it.

What, no paw prints yet? Did you lock Larry up?
