The Paper Trail

A look at what's making headlines in community newspapers in the (212):

Gay City News leads with our own upstate soap opera: In a stunning reversal, Malcolm Smith, in line to become the new state Senate leader, ended negotiations with the Gang of Three, who threatened to block marriage equality for up to two years.

This week's Chelsea Now probes the struggle going on between nightclubs -- where a rash of high-profile murders have taken place in our once-safe neighborhood -- and the local boards that want to shut them down.

The New York Blade reports on the deadly attack on two brothers who dared to walk arm-in-arm in Brooklyn; and the three Democratic state senators who tried to use gay rights as a bargaining chip for power.

It's horrible - I live in the area and as a fellow Ecuadorian and gay man, am truly horrified. Despite the area's recent change and moderate gentrification, disgusting people still exist in Bushwick; hopefully this will not occur when the neighborhood is brought up to speed.
