The short-lived but much-loved U.K. band Big Sound Authority were yet another of Paul Weller's early finds for his Respond Records label in the early '80s. Their sole contribution to the "Love the Reason" album was the immensely delightful "History of the World," which you can download HERE. (Your iPod will thank you later.) The group was formed in 1983 by Tony Burke and Julie Hadwin, who both served as lead singers and blended their interest in pop-rock and blues to wonderful effect.
Although they appeared on Weller's Respond compilation, they were eventually signed to the small label Source Records and released a slew of singles and one album, 1985's "An Inward Revolution," before disbanding in 1986.
Some 20 years later a live DVD, "This House (Is Where Your Love Stands)," named after their biggest hit, was released in 2006. I've recently viewed it and it only makes me sad that Big Sound Authority weren't more on my radar back in the day as their upbeat brand of jazzy pop would have most definitely been in heavy rotation on my trusty Yorx stereo.

One of my favourite albums of all time. So sad they didn't do more.
