13 Mile

Not exactly Fox's "O.C."

Like my hometown of Madison Heights, Mich., isn't famous enough with notable former residents like the artist Robert Wyland(?) and the NHL star Pat Peake(?). Now comes word that we scored two out of the nine "unique Detroit dining experiences" on Metromix.com -- Green Lantern (pizza) and Telway (sliders)! All of this, plus our very own unsolved child serial killer. It's enough to make a guy wonder why he ever left ...

As a former Oakland County-ite, I must say I am impressed they are moving on up!

It was quite a thrill for me to learn, as a Washington Capitals hockey fan, that Pat Peake was also a fellow Lamphere High student. Pat's career was cut short when he skated into the boards too fast and shattered a heel.

Wayne County-ite here. And in Lincoln Park we weren't known for much

I'd say it sounds more like a Lifetime Movie.

Yeah but Oakland County is the fourth richest county in America. It's pretty much Michigan's greatest accomplishment.

The Walsh family was on the not-so-rich border with Macomb County (there weren't any cars on blocks in the yards, but I don't think we had a neighbor that wasn't from Kentucky or Tennessee). And the housing prices even on the "rich" side of Oakland County look pretty good these days from D.C. and Manhattan.

Actually, Oakland County appears to rank either 26th or 60th, depending on your criteria.
