Who's Sari Now?

(EDITOR'S NOTE: This post was written by guest blogger Marc Lallanilla.)

This could be a good week for gay rights: India, with a population of over 1 billion people, may finally scrap a law dating from the colonial British era that outlaws homosexuality. The government is scheduled to argue its case before the Delhi High Court on Thursday.

Activists say that repealing Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code would not only promote civil rights by giving legitimacy to gays and lesbians, but would also help address the spread of HIV/AIDS. It's estimated that India has over 5 million people living with HIV, but estimates are unreliable because of the stigma that has traditionally been associated with the illness, and with being gay or lesbian.

Freedom marches on ...

That would be SO great!

I'm vacationing in India in November, and it sure would be wonderful when the law is already passed. Currently there are no gay bars per se - everything is underground. To be in India and celebrate with other gays would be fantastic.
