Tarting It Up

There's a great article about the tart frozen yogurt wars in the upcoming Sunday Magazine. It goes on and on about how the "original" company from South Korea, Red Mango, was finding success in America despite Pinkberry's having the early lead in opening shops. As they kept describing where all these Red Mango places were located in Manhattan I realized they were all near me.

Except the only Pinkberry competitor I've noticed was this place called ORED Mango, so I was wondering if there were now three of them doing essentially the same thing. Finally came to realize (don't laugh) that that's NOT an "O" at the beginning of the word, but some logo (I guess). (How's that for bad branding? Or am I just retarded?) Incidentally, the article talks about how some people swear by one versus the other. Mikey and I tried Red Mango for the first time last night (we both had plain, he had raspberries on his and I had granola) and thought it was WAY BETTER than Pinkberry (which happens to be at the end of my street). Both are tart plain yogurt, but Red Mango has a creamier taste to it, which is way more fun. Anyone else try both?

In california we also have Fraiche, which is even more delicious than Red Mango :)

Oh my, imagine the comments that you have opened yourself up to by your description of why you prefer Red Mango! I won't go there but am glad that you are on the barricades for the frozen desert wars! Cheers, GP

I hate Pinkberry. The taste is so repulsive. The only fun thing about is, when you take someone there who hasn't tried it, trying to explain that the vanilla does not taste like vanilla. It just tastes like ... sour crap.

Dan -- But it's NOT vanilla. It's PLAIN yogurt. Two totally different things.

For once we agree. I am SO with you! I think Pinkberry is so overblown...red mango is where it's at. I'm addicted!
