Page 1 Consider (09/23)

  • Rising Star: Although it's probably not true, I'd like to think I had something to do with hottie Ryan Paevey getting signed by Major Models Management. You can check out all of my Ryan photo posts here.

  • Your ADA at Work for You: A man in a wheelchair held up a 7-Eleven in Dallas at baseball-bat point, making off with a 10 boxes of condoms and an energy drink. (AP)

  • Mad Dog: Matt Taibbi's latest Rolling Stone article -- "The Lies of Sarah Palin" -- is worth a read. (Hard copy only.) In it, he reminds us that John McCain's running mate may be a tawdry, half-assed fraud -- but that's not as scary as what her candidacy really says about America. The sidebar -- "The Truth About Sarah Palin" -- is online and does a nice job of blowing the lid off her self-styled "reformer" image. (RollingStone)

  • Madder Dogs: Speaking of which, it seems even pit bulls have begun to rally against the world's most dangerous hockey mom. (Snuzzy)

  • Hypocrite of the Week: Anti-gay John McCain has a gay chief of staff. (Insert fake gasp here.) (Signorile)

  • Akron Girl: Chrissie Hynde and her revolving door of Pretenders are back with a new album -- her first recorded entirely in the United States of America. (Reuters)

  • Transgender Rights: A federal judge has ruled that the Library of Congress illegally discriminated against a Special Forces veteran when she was denied a job after announcing her intention to transition from male to female. (365Gay)

  • Our Money's as Good as Yours: Here's an interesting look inside the world of trangender finances. (Queercents)

  • Dedicated: Celebrity crime writer Dominick Dunne was released from a hospital Monday after being stricken with pain in the courtroom in the O.J. Simpson armed robbery-kidnapping trial. Dunne, who is battling bladder cancer and is attending the trial against his doctors' orders and his family's wishes, says he hopes to be in court today. (AP)

  • Revisiting 'Laramie': In case you missed it last week, there was a great piece in The Times about the Tectonic Theater Company's return to Laramie, Wyo., 10 years after Matthew Shepard's murder: Their goal "is to use new interviews with real-life characters in 'The Laramie Project' not only to write an epilogue to this frequently performed play, but also to explore whether the past decade has brought any change in Laramie, its citizens and its attitudes toward gay people." (NYT)

  • Hitting the Right Notes: Run-D.M.C., Metallica, Jeff Beck, singer Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, War, Bobby Womack, and Chic were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (AP)

  • Just Say No: No on Prop 8 has released its first TV spot featuring California voters Sam and Julia Thoron. The Thorons discuss their family -- including a lesbian daughter -- and urge voters to vote "No" on Prop 8. (Towleroad)

  • RIP: Nancy Hicks Maynard, who was the first black woman to be a reporter at The New York Times and with her husband bought and published The Oakland Tribune, still the only major metropolitan daily to have been owned by African-Americans, died Sunday in Los Angeles. She was 61 and lived in Santa Monica, Calif. (NYT)
