Page 1 Consider (05/07)

  • Playing Dress Up: In case you're wondering, Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen were by far the Most Beautiful Couple at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute's new exhibit "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy." (Boston)

  • Heighted Diplomacy: From the Teach Me Something I Didn't Already Know Files comes word that Fordham University is offering courses for airline employees on how to deal with unruly travelers. In the class we learn that a female airline customer service representative got punched in the face -- but that she deserved it. (NYT)

  • They're Just Like Us: Even legendary tennis champs like Martina Navratilova like to get autographs from sports heroes like Eli Manning! (Yahoo)

  • Cruel and Unusual: If you think the U.S. treats immigrants it holds in custody humanely, think again. First Francisco Castaneda lost his penis -- then his life. (NYT)

  • Crazy in Love: Uma Thurman's overzealous admirer was found guilty of stalking the actress, but does anyone care that he sleeps on the streets of Chelsea at night? I don't think it's right for him to harass or scare anyone, but obviously the guy is mentally ill and needs treatment. He could be sentenced to more than a year in prison for his misdeeds, yet I don't feel enough is being made of the fact that Jordan was committed to a mental institution after visiting Thurman on the set of a (really bad) movie in November 2005. He was diagnosed as schizophrenic, given anti-psychotic drugs, then released after a month. Let's hope his pre-sentencing evaluation enables him to get the help he so clearly needs. (NYT)

  • Isn't That 'Special': FBI agents on Tuesday raided the offices of a small federal watchdog agency that is charged with protecting the rights of government whistle-blowers but has been accused of retaliating against whistle-blowers in its own ranks. The Bush-appointed director of the Office of Special Counsel, Scott Bloch, has a long history of anti-gay behavior, including an allegation that he failed to protect federal workers from discrimination based on their sexual orientation and of retaliating, through intimidation and involuntary transfers, against employees who complained. Bloch is also under investigation for his involvement in the partisan firings of U.S. attorneys in 2006. (NYT)

  • Cops and Robbers: The Police, who broke up in 1984 but reunited for a 30th-anniversary world tour last year, say their final concert will take place this summer in New York City. With ticket prices being what they are, I doubt I will be there though. (AP)

  • Island of Lost Souls: A gay couple from Massachusetts has received an apology after being detained by police after kissing on the dance floor of a popular club on Grand Cayman. I'm sure the island's department of tourism had nothing to do with that. (365Gay)

  • Daddy Dearest: Josef Fritzl, the twisted f**k who locked his daughter in a cellar for 24 years and raped her repeatedly, was an "extreme pervert" who even scared prostitutes(!) with his controlling ways, according to people who work at the whorehouse he frequented. Meanwhile, new reports are saying that he may have been raping one of his inbred daughters (aka his "granddaughter") who lived in the dungeon because he no longer found his sex-slave daughter attractive. Police can't interview the girl because she is deathly ill. (God help her -- and them all.) (Scotsman) (NYP)
