franQ in the (347)

(EDITOR'S NOTE: This post was written by guest blogger Frank Anthony Polito.)

I've decided I should probably tell you a little bit about myself, other than the fact that I'm the author of the soon-to-be publised novel, BAND FAGS! (Kensington Books, June 2008).

I'm typing at you from Park Slope, Brooklyn, where I live with my partner, Craig Bentley, a talented actor (and I'm not just saying that!) I've known since our undergrad days at "the live at home college," Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.

Which leads me to how I've come to know our dear, Kenneth in the (212)...

About a year ago (this week, I believe), I came across Kenneth's blog via a post/link on Towleroad. It turned out that KW is also an ex-Detroiter, though he abanoned the Motor City at the ripe old age of something like 10, for the Arizona desert. I shot him an email, introducing myself, and invited him to coffee in order to pick his brain on how I might go about furthering my budding writing career...

We hit it off, discovering that we grew up in cities that border each other (I, in Hazel Park, aka "Hazeltucky" and KW in Madison Heights). We also learned that we even shared the same dentist, Dr. Lenzi, (across from Universal Mall on Dequindre near 12 Mile--as in four miles north of 8 Mile, as in Eminem).

Fast forward 360-some odd days later and here we are! (I know, so where are the hot guys?)

Welcome to the 212. My only issue is that you should live in the 212 to blog for KW! My god, have we stooped so low that we import bloggers to the 212 (didn't mad King George cut back on those work visas?)? Good luck on the week of blogging, cheers, Garry in the 212

Hiya there: This is a pretty stock question to ask an aspiring writer, but.....Who are your favorite authors? Do you like any of the "classics"? -Joe

Thanks, anon... I realize that (347) is indeed a step down from (212). But KW is loyal to his Hometown Motown Boys.

Hi, Scooter!

Beantown Cuban: are you THE Johnny Diaz, author of BOSTON BOYS CLUB? We have the same editor, John Scognamiglio, at Kensington Books!

Favorite authors: Michael Chabon, Michael Cunningham, Kief Hillsbery (WAR BOY). Also a big fan of "classic" children's books: Maurice Sendak, EB White, Shel Silverstein.

Funny, but when I called myself an actor, I didn't have many "faves." Same as with being a writer. (Why is that, I wonder?)

I would be here forever if started on my favorite books. But the hottest guys in literature HAVE to be (so far) : Heathcliff from WUTHERING HEIGHTS; Raskolnikov from CRIME AND PUNISHMENT (so handsome and moody, in spite of being a murderer); and Wolf Larsen from Jack London's THE SEA WOLF. What a stud. Totally miscast as Edward G. Robinson in one of the film versions, because in the book he's described as blonde, blue, and handsome (which belies his amoral character).
