Legend Has It

On Monday I'm thrilled to be going to the Pete Sampras vs. Roger Federer "NetJets Showdown" at Madison Square Garden. This is the fourth installation of the boys' exhibition tour -- Federer won 6-4, 6-3 in Seoul, 7-6, 7-6 in Kuala Lumpur, and Sampras took Federer 7-6, 6-4 in Macau. Do I believe this match pitting the World Number 1 against a past-his-prime legend is legitimate or that Sampras really beat Federer back in November? I'd have to say no. But the current issue of Play magazine analyzes the upcoming showdown in a way that makes you wonder if it could be real -- or if they cannot be serious! (See you there, Ms. Wintour!)

given that Roger lost in the semis at the AO, and lost his first rounder at Dubai, don't you think he might be better served by playing "real" tennis in prep for the Spring US Hardcourt Swing instead of going for a cash grab in New York? I think his work ethic, and his coaching situation could use a little more attention.
