Shangahi Surprise(s)

The season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai has produced one upset after the next. Rafael Nadal lost to David Ferrer 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a match between Spaniards. A weary Novak Djokovic lost to Richard Gasquet of France 6-4, 6-2 and was eliminated from contention for the semifinals having already lost to Ferrer with one match left in the Gold Group. In the Red Group, top-ranked Roger Federer lost his first match, to Fernando Gonzalez, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5, and No. 4 Nikolay Davydenko lost to Andy Roddick, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 (talk about a surprise -- Roddick not being upset!). Federer and Davydenko will play each other today, followed by Roddick vs. Gonzalez.
